Gaimo Shoes is based in the famous shoe-making town of Arnedo, northern Spain. Known for beautifully handcrafted espadrilles and boots, Gaimo has long been a Booty Shoes favourite. With Spain so hard-hit by the coronavirus, Gaimo has now turned its efforts to making face masks.
THE SPANISH FIGHT AGAINST CORONAVIRUS
Gaimo and the rest of the Arnedo community have stepped up to help Spanish healthcare workers by producing and distributing medical items. Working in collaboration, local companies have put their workers, equipment and facilities at the service of this initiative. Gaimo’s factory halted its normal production over a month ago and quickly set up capabilities to sew masks and medical apparel as part of a fantastic community-wide effort.
CRAFTSMANSHIP IS IN GAIMO'S GENES
Gaimo's roots date back to the ‘70s when José Luis Iturriaga and his wife Esmeralda started a small handmade espadrilles workshop in Arnedo. José Luis’ four daughters, who used to spend long summers in their father’s factory, now run the company by his side.
Jose Luis says “I understood the value of the craftsmanship tradition of the region, but I also knew that with innovative technologies we could manufacture a top-quality product that joined the best from both worlds. Booty has stocked Gaimo for over 15 years. Owner Greg Harrison says “I keep coming back to Gaimo every season. It’s a small family business from a long tradition of shoemaking and they hand-make their shoes in La Rioja. Their love shows."
